The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry continues to report on the increasing demand by dental patients for teeth whitening procedures, porcelain veneers, and direct bonding.
The Wealthy Dentist periodically surveys dentists on their opinions about cosmetic dentistry and the average gross production of a new cosmetic patient in the first 9 months of a specific year to gather information for dentists on the rising demand for cosmetic dentistry.
For 2012, dentists report the gross production of a new cosmetic patient is anywhere from as low as $5,500 to as high as $16,000 depending on the treatment.
Some dentists shared that this statistic is not an easy one to gauge, “A cosmetic dental patient could be a single composite restoration, at-home whitening case or 20 veneers after orthodontics and perio surgery. It’s tough to average.” wrote an Illinois dentist.
In 2011, when The Wealthy Dentist last looked at cosmetic dentistry production, survey participants overwhelmingly agreed that revenues generated from cosmetic dental treatments had increased and they expected revenues would continue to increase or stay the same well into 2012.
A general dentist responded, “There is a spread the 6-8,000 and the 20,000 and up with very little in the middle. The lower end cases are usually financed with Care Credit or similar. The larger cases paid cash or credit card with prepay discounts.”
According to Dentistry IQ and the recent State of Cosmetic Dentistry by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, 40% of dentists experienced more than 15% growth in cosmetic production during the past five years. Nearly 80% of dentists expect this growth to increase during the next five years.
