Do Dental Schools Prepare Dentists for Today’s Practice?

Do Dental Schools Prepare Dentists for Today's Practice? (video)Dentists must have a degree from an accredited dental school in order to practice dentistry in the U.S.

But does dental school teach dentists everything they need to know about being a dentist?

The Wealthy Dentist conducted a survey asking dentists if dental school adequately prepares dentists for the real world.

A Maryland dentist responded, “Dental schools routinely produce graduates who believe they know a great deal more than they really know.  They are definitely not ready for private practice.”

In this survey 4 out of 5 dentists felt dental graduates are not prepared for the financial realities of practicing dentistry.  Only 1 in 5 dentists felt that dental schools do an adequate job.

“Most dental schools give some instruction in the economics of practicing dentistry, but it only scratches the surface!” wrote an Indiana periodontist.
